NORMAN, Okla. -- Paul Chavez of Odessa CC has been named NJCAA Divison I Eaton Golf Pride National Coach of the Year, announced the Golf Coaches Association of America. It is the second straight season Chavez has claimed the award.
Chavez -- a 2007 NJCAA Golf Coaches Hall of Fame inductee -- led the Wranglers to eight tournament titles in 2007-2008, including six-straight to end the regular season. Additionally, Odessa defeated McLennan in a match to open the spring. The team captured runner-up finishes in its three other regular season events. Chavez also coached Joseph Totah to PING First-Team All-America honors and placed Jordan Jeffers on the second team.
"It is truly a greast honor to receive Coach of the Year," said Chavez. "I'd like to thank the committee members and everyone who was prominent in the selection. Our team had a great year and without their dedication and and work ethic this would not have been possible."
