Rose sacrifices cash for Cup, stays in Europe to nail down his spot

- PA Sports

GLENEAGLES, Scotland (PA) -- Justin Rose is to continue his quest for a Ryder Cup debut right down to the wire at Gleneagles this week -- and that means kissing goodbye to a possible $10 million jackpot in America.

"It's only money; you can't take it with you," said Rose, who tied for 34th at the KLM Open in Holland on Sunday and so failed to make certain of a place in Europe's side.

The world No. 12 stays eighth on the table with only this week's Johnnie Walker Championship to come. Three players have to go past him to deny him, but six still have a chance to do that.

They are Soren Hansen, Oliver Wilson, Martin Kaymer, Ian Poulter, Ross Fisher and Nick Dougherty.

Rose had hoped to return to the FedExCup playoffs in the States for this week's Deutsche Bank Championship, but by missing it and last week's Barclays tournament, he cannot qualify for the third.

"My missus will be upset with me. I told her I'd play well and see her tomorrow," said Rose, who instead of flying across the Atlantic made plans for his trip to Scotland instead.

"It's Plan B. It was not on my schedule to play these two weeks in Europe, but I came to do a job," he added. "It could be a fun week. It should be another windy one, which I'm looking forward to -- not!"
