Doctors implanted a valve in Ballesteros's brain on Tuesday to remove fluid, said officials at La Paz Hospital. He is in stable condition and remains in intensive care, they said.
Doctors also repaired a bone defect stemming from one of the procedures the golf great has undergone since his initial operation.
Ballesteros was diagnosed with a brain tumor after losing consciousness at Madrid Airport in October. He underwent a lengthy operation on Oct. 24 to reduce pressure on his brain and remove remaining tumor tissues following two previous operations.
On Nov. 18 he had recovered sufficiently to leave intensive care, although a hospital statement warned there was a long way to go.
