Officials at Madrid's La Paz hospital said Ballesteros was "well" but would remain hospitalized after doctors implanted a valve to drain fluid from his brain on Tuesday.
Doctors also repaired a bone defect from one of the procedures the Spaniard has undergone since surgery to remove a malignant brain tumor on Oct. 24.
He remained in intensive care overnight being moved back onto the ward on Wednesday.
The 51-year-old Ballesteros was first admitted to the hospital on Oct. 6 after fainting at Madrid's international airport.
He underwent a lengthy operation on Oct. 24 to reduce pressure on his brain and remove remaining tumour tissues following two previous operations. On Nov. 18 he had recovered sufficiently to leave intensive care, although a hospital statement did warn there was a long way to go.
