The Samsung World Championship is moving this fall from the California desert to the Ocean Course at Half Moon Bay Golf Links in Half Moon Bay, Calif., just south of San Francisco. The tournament, which features an elite field of 20 players, had been at Bighorn Golf Club in Palm Desert the last four years.
The move will give northern California consecutive weeks of women's golf. The Samsung Championship will be played Oct. 2-5, one week before the Longs Drugs Challenge in Danville.
Half Moon Bay, designed by Arthur Hills in 1997, becomes the 15th course to host the Samsung.
CASH FOR CANCER: Beth Bader, fresh off a career-best LPGA Tour season in 2007, hosted the first-ever Susan L. Bader Memorial Golf Classic on Jan. 26 at Fountains Country Club in Lake Worth, Fla. The event raised $50,000 for the Susan L. Bader Hope Foundation, which is named in honor of Beth's mother, who died of pancreatic cancer in 2004. In 2008, Bader will also donate $5 for every birdie she makes on Tour.
LEE SIGNS WITH LELA: Hwanhee Lee will start her rookie year on the LPGA Tour sporting LELA Designs apparel. The 25-year-old graduate from the University of Nevada-Las Vegas, joins Mhairi McKay, an 11-year LPGA Tour member from Scotland, in wearing the apparel.
