
WILLIAMSBURG, Va. -- Jamie Lovemark of Southern California swept all three major NCAA Division I awards, winning honors for player of the year, freshman of the year and medalist at the NCAA finals. In team play, Stanford University won its first national title since the Tiger Woods era over the weekend.
Lovemark was named the Division I recipient of the Jack Nicklaus Award presented by Dillard's Inc./Hartmarx Corp., which is presented annually to the national player of the year in NCAA Divisions I, II and III and the NAIA.
Lovemark burst onto the scene with four wins during his first season at USC. He won the NCAA Division I Championships, Pac-10 Championship, Big Ten/Pac-10 Challenge and the Oregon Duck Invitational.
He also finished runner-up at both the NCAA West Regional and USC Collegiate Invitational and third at the Inverness Intercollegiate Invitational and the CordeValle Collegiate. In addition, he was a semifinalist for The Ben Hogan Award.
Lovemark also was presented with the Phil Mickelson Award as the nation's outstanding freshman in NCAA Division I men's golf. Joseph Bramlett of Stanford, Rory Hie of Southern California, Charlotte's Corey Nagy and Kyle Stanley of Clemson join Lovemark on the All-Freshmen Team.
Finally, Lovemark captured the Arnold Palmer Award presented by Callaway Golf, which is presented to the national championship individual medalist.
Notable past recipients of the award include Phil Mickelson (1992), Justin Leonard (1994), Tiger Woods (1996), Charles Howell (2000) and Ryan Moore (2005).
Stanford Cardinal coach, Conrad Ray, received the Eaton Golf Pride Dave Williams Award as national Coach of the Year. Ray led Stanford to a 12-stroke victory at the NCAA Championships, its sixth victory of the season.
In addition to its win at nationals, the Cardinal won The Gopher Invitational, The Prestige at PGA West, the CordeValle Collegiate, the USC Collegiate Invitational and tied for first at the U.S. Intercollegiate and the UH Hilo Intercollegiate. Stanford posted five other finishes in the top five and its worst finish of the season was seventh.
Also, Lovemark led 10 players named to the Division I Ping First All-America Team. Joining him on the team are Rhys Davies of East Tennessee State, Florida's Billy Horschel, Dustin Johnson of Coastal Carolina, Chris Kirk and Brendon Todd of Georgia, Arizona State's Niklas Lemke, Clemson's Kyle Stanley and Dawie van der Walt of Lamar.
