Snell of Mississippi Gulf Coast wins NJCAA D-II Coach of the Year

Tommy Snell of Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College has been named the NJCAA Division II Eaton Golf Pride Coach of the Year, the Golf Coaches Association of America has announced.

"It's quite and honor and a privilege," Snell said of the award. "I do it for the kids. I'm humbled."

Snell led his team to six first-place finishes this season and an appearance at the NJCAA Division II Championship.

NJCAA DIVISION II ARNOLD PALMER AWARD: Marc Rice of Tyler Junior College has won the Arnold Palmer Award presented by Callaway Golf for NJCAA Division II. The Palmer Award is presented annually to the national championship medalists in men's golf in NCAA Divisions I, II and III, the NAIA and NJCAA Divisions I and II.

Rice won the individual title by one stroke, and also led Tyler to a three-stroke team victory. He opened the tournament by shooting a 70, and followed up with a 73 in the second round and an even-par 72 in the third. Rice shot a 74 in the final round for a 1-over 289 total.

NJCAA DIVISION II ALL-AMERICA TEAMS: The GCAA has announced PING All-America Teams for NJCAA Division II.

Darton CC's Jin Chung and Evan Hanna, Tyler Junior College's Davis Poscente and Marc Rice, Muskegon CC's Garrett Smith, and Matt Smith of Darton comprise the first team.

The second team is made up of South Mountain CC's Nic Banfield, Cody Blankenship of Tyler Junior College, John A. Logan CC's William Bremner, Luke Fullen of Walters State Junior College, John A. Logan CC's Patrick Scheil, and James Williams of Miles CC.
