Sept. 4, 2008 -- (Greensboro, Ga.) - Reynolds Plantation's popular Red Zone Challenge Short Game School is becoming a reality television show, where teams of golf professionals and amateurs compete in various skills, based on drills that are part of the Red Zone Challenge.

Developed by Charlie King, author of "Golf's Red Zone Challenge" (Athlon Sports, 2005), director of the Reynolds Golf Academy and member of the PGA.com Editorial Advisory Board, the new series aims to present golf instruction in a more understandable format. "Each show will help take the mystery out of playing golf," said King, who is to co-host the show.
Produced and filmed by CCI Communications, Inc., the Red Zone Challenge is scheduled to be taped next week at the Reynolds Golf Academy, to be aired this fall on SportSouth in the Southeast and on Comcast SportsNet in the Philadelphia area. Specific dates and times for the broadcasts are to be announced.
The show is centered on five teams, each consisting of four golfers (one professional, three amateurs). Each player competes in five rounds of skills: short putting, long putting, chip shots, pitch shots, bunker shots and wedge shots - all from varying distances.
In each round of "challenges," teams earn points based on how each of their members fares in the respective skill tests. All teams compete in the first and second rounds, with the team with the fewest points eliminated after the second round. Another team is then eliminated after the third, fourth and fifth rounds, leaving only the winning team.
"We think that golfers who watch this show will see other golfers facing the same obstacles as they do on the golf course," King said, "and see that there is a way to learn skills that will make them better golfers. That will make them want to play more and enjoy the game more, which is the ultimate goal."
Joining King on the broadcast team are co-hosts Ken Adelberger, of Inside Golf, and Traci Buch, of host Reynolds Plantation.
