Zagat rates PGA Golf Club "Excellent"

- PGA.com

PALM BEACH GARDENS, Fla. -- The Ryder, Wanamaker and Dye Courses of The PGA Golf Club, The PGA of America's first owned and operated golf facility, have all earned "excellent" ratings, following reviews for Zagat's America's Top Golf Courses 2007/08.

The guide is a compilation of reviews from 6,250 golfers who have rated 1,075 courses in the United States, Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands. The guide is edited by Joseph Passov, Craig Better and Tom Mackin. The consumer golf "reviewers" for Zagat's America's Top Golf Courses 2007/08 have averaged 10 years of playing experience and have recorded some 560,000 annual rounds.

The Zagat survey publications, originated in 1979 by Nina and Tim Zagat of New York City, today feature 250,000 reviewers that cover dining, entertaining, golf, hotels, movies, music, nightlife, resorts, shopping, spas, theater and tourist attractions worldwide.

Each golf entry was rated on the basis of Course, Facilities, Service and Value. Reader comments about The PGA Golf Club's courses included:

The Wanamaker Course: Renamed after "recent renovations, which involved replacing all of the greens" and reconstructing a number of the bunkers, this Tom Fazio design (formerly the South Course) remains a "solid" and "challenging gem" that's laced with palms, palmettos, wetlands; boasting all of the amenities of "the great PGA Village facility," including a 35-acre [PGA] Learning Center, the layout proves "a wonderful value considering the quality."

The Ryder Course: Formerly the North Course, this "very good" Tom Fazio design may be "even better" now that it's reopened after extensive landscaping and renovations to its greens and bunkers; routed over rolling, "variable terrain" with "wide, pine-lined fairways and "plenty of challenge," this "solid value" also features "friendly service" and "wonderful facilities" that have "both amateurs and professionals" wondering "what more could you ask for?"

The Dye Course: "Not for the faint of heart," this "simply awesome" Pete Dye layout is loaded with a range of the architect's "classic" and "subtle strategies;" "this golf heaven" is part of a "great PGA center" and resort complex in Port St. Lucie; anticipate that you will "love the course, the staff and the facilities."

The Ryder, Wanamaker and Dye Courses form a trio of world-class public courses at The PGA Golf Club, which is part of PGA Village, a premier resort community in Port St. Lucie, Fla. The community features the award-winning PGA Golf Club, the PGA Learning Center, PGA Historical Center and PGA Education Center.

The PGA Golf Club, The PGA of America's first owned and operated public golf facility, also has all three of its courses as members of the Audubon International Signature Status for environmentally compliance.
