The 69th Senior PGA Championship, making its first appearance at Oak Hill Country Club later this month, will be preceded by a series of events on Monday, May 19, featuring an Executive Women's Golf Association clinic with PGA First Lady of Golf Carol Mann, a Community Relations Youth Clinic and Play Golf America Day, featuring more than 40 Western New York PGA Professionals.
All events will be conducted at Genesee Valley Golf Course, which is approximately 10 miles west of Oak Hill Country Club. The EWGA clinic and Community Relations clinics are not open to the public.
Play Golf America Day will be conducted from 4:00-7:00 p.m., featuring PGA Honorary Member Dennis Walters, a nationally renowned golf trick-shot performer. The program also features equipment demonstration stations, family activities and free 10-minute lessons provided by Western New York PGA Professionals in recognition of PGA Free Lesson Month.
As part of the festivities, the first 250 people who register online (limit one person per household) at www.PlayGolfAmerica.com and attend Play Golf America Day will receive two tickets each to a practice round for the 69th Senior PGA Championship.
Mann, a member of the World Golf and LPGA Halls of Fame, will be receiving the 2008 PGA First Lady of Golf Award in Rochester on May 21. She will conduct the EWGA clinic at 1:30 p.m., followed by instruction sessions including Western New York PGA Professionals.
The Community Relations Youth Clinic will be conducted for youth representing 18 charities or organizations in the Greater Rochester area. Dennis Walters also will perform during the clinic at 4:15 p.m.
Play Golf America, designed to increase participation among adult golfers, was developed by The PGA of America, with the support of allied associations including: the LPGA, National Golf Course Owners Association, PGA Tour, USGA and others involved in the annual Golf 20/20 Conference. The program utilizes the www.PlayGolfAmerica.com Web site to serve as a link for consumers to access fun, affordable and informative programs in their area.
