PALM BEACH GARDENS, Fla. -- The PGA Golf Club of Port St. Lucie, Fla., is returning its annual "Home to the Pros, Free to America's Youth" summer golf program for kids. As is tradition, from Memorial Day through Labor Day, young golfers 18-and-under can enjoy complimentary rounds of golf at The PGA Golf Club, when accompanied by a paying adult on Mondays-Thursdays after 11:00 a.m.; and on Fridays-Sundays and holidays after 2:00 p.m.
The popular program at The PGA Golf Club -- ranked by Golf Digest as one of the "75 Best Golf Resorts in North America" -- also offers juniors an opportunity to play from "Family Tees," which are designed to enhance the entire family's golf experience.
In addition, The PGA Golf Club's six-hole Short Course features holes 25 to 50 yards long, which makes for a great setting for beginners and young children to learn the game; gives juniors with a limited amount of time available the ability to play golf; and offers advanced players a means to focus on their short games. So, whether young golfers tee it up on the Short Course or the Tom Fazio-designed Wanamaker and Ryder Courses -- junior players can enjoy a great day at The PGA Golf Club, as they develop strong character traits in a positive environment.
"You are never too young to learn the game, as well as the important fundamental lessons, such as courtesy, proper etiquette and respect that comprise the integrity of the game for golfers of all ages," said Bob Baldassari, PGA general manager of The PGA Golf Club, the only public facility owned and operated by The PGA of America. "With 'Home to the Pros, Free to America's Youth,' young golfers 18 and under of all skill levels have a special opportunity to experience The PGA Golf Club for free all summer long, as they enjoy The PGA's home to golf for juniors and adults alike."
Parents may accompany more than one child in their group and are requested to include junior golfers without accompanying adults as their guests. For tee times, reservations and more information, call (800) 800-GOLF Ext. 2. Be sure to ask for the "Free Youth" special. Rounds of golf can also be reserved on www.pgavillage.com.
Meanwhile, the nearby PGA Learning Center is offering a number of Youth Golf Camps, Clinics and Golf Schools designed for beginners to advanced players between the ages of 3-18. Fundamentals, such as proper grip, full-swing techniques, wood and iron play, short-game strategies, bunker play, putting and golf etiquette are taught during the summer in an environment that is both fun and structured for kids.
To register for 2008 Youth Golf Camps, Clinics and Golf Schools, call (772) 468-7686 Ext. 3 or (800) 800-GOLF Ext. 3. Reservations can also be made in the PGA Learning Center's Golf Shop, 8565 Commerce Center Dr., Port St. Lucie, Fla. For more information, visit www.pgavillage.com.
