PGA donates food to Open Door Mission after Senior PGA Championship

- PGA.com

ROCHESTER, N.Y. -- The 69th Senior PGA Championship will continue to give back to the Rochester community even after the event, with a significant donation of food to Rochester's Open Door Mission. The Open Door Mission, a not-for-profit ministry that relies entirely upon private donations from the community, provides people with emergency food and shelter.

Representatives from the Open Door Mission picked up food, Tuesday, May 27, in the Media Center at Oak Hill Country Club.

"As with The PGA of America's Community Relations Program, which supports a wide variety of local charities, we are always very mindful of giving back to the community that supports us," said PGA of America President Brian Whitcomb. "We hope the Open Door Mission will be able to make good use of the food and applaud them for the outstanding work they do every day."

"Wherever we go we seek an outstanding charity to work with that can make sure any excess food goes to people in need," said Chris Barnes, Regional Manager of Operations for Levy Restaurants, which handles catering and food service for PGA of America events. "We are pleased that we can do some good for people in need in the community by making this donation."

Oak Hill Country Club, recognized as one of the finest golf courses in America, has been synonymous with the best in golf. In the past two decades, the East Course at Oak Hill has hosted the 1980 and 2003 PGA Championship, the 1984 U.S. Senior Open, the 1989 U.S. Open, the 1995 Ryder Cup and the 1998 U.S. Amateur. It has also been named the site of the 2013 PGA Championship.
