PGA Annual Meeting set to begin

Nov. 5, 2008 -- The PGA's Annual Meeting is a forum to discuss membership matters. With the theme of "Leadership in a Changing World," the PGA Annual Meeting will focus on the growing global influence of The PGA and allow PGA Professionals in attendance or viewing the General Session online to experience the Association's governance process at work.

On the heels of the 91st PGA Annual Meeting held in January in conjunction with the 2008 PGA Merchandise Show, this will mark the first time there have been two PGA Annual Meetings within one calendar year. This being an election year, the PGA Annual Meeting returns to its traditional home on the calendar, and in the home region of the outgoing PGA President.

Election Year:
The 92nd PGA Annual Meeting will feature a changing of the guard among the PGA national officers, as PGA President Brian Whitcomb will preside over his final official PGA event in his current role and will become PGA Honorary President. Current PGA Vice President Jim Remy is expected to be elected the 36th PGA President, while current PGA Secretary Allen Wronowski is expected to become PGA Vice President.

A new PGA Secretary will be chosen during the 92nd Annual Meeting from among two candidates who have been nominated and seconded by PGA Sections: District 6 Director Ted Bishop of Franklin, Ind., and former District 2 Director Ted O'Rourke of Convent Station, N.J. At the PGA Annual Meeting, each candidate will discuss his views and plans prior to the General Session on Nov. 8. Each candidate will then be nominated at the General Session. The winning candidate will be chosen by a majority vote cast by section delegates (two from each section), PGA board members including current officers and the honorary president, and any PGA past presidents in attendance.

PGA Annual Meeting Resolutions:
Delegates are scheduled to vote on the following resolutions during the 92nd PGA Annual Meeting:
• Earning Experience Credits While Engaged In Active Military Service
• Eligibility For Membership While Engaged In Military Service
• Earning Of Credits While Under PGA Member Supervision

Board of Directors:
The PGA of America Board of Directors is comprised of the President, Vice President, Secretary, Honorary President and 17 directors who establish Association policy. The directors include representatives from each of The PGA's 14 districts, two independent directors and a member of the PGA Tour. The three new incoming district directors are:
• District 4 Director: Michael Doctor, Director of Golf, Skaneateles (N.Y.) Country Club Central New York, Tri-State, Western New York
• Disrict 8 Director: Jeff Smith, Head PGA Professional and Owner, Harvest Point Golf Course, Oskaloosa, Iowa Iowa, Minnesota, Nebraska
• District 9 Director: Ron Dunham, Director of Golf, Teton Pines Golf Course, Jackson, Wyo. Colorado, Rocky Mountain, Utah
