PGA Tour Notebook: Furyk signs endorsement deal with TOUR GCX

- PGA.com

Jim Furyk has signed an endorsement agreement with TOUR GCX Partners, golfers' passport to access private clubs worldwide, company officials have announced. Winner of 13 PGA TOUR events, including the 2003 U.S. Open, Furyk will be featured in TOUR GCX promotions.

A five-time Ryder Cup player, Furyk is ninth in the Official World Golf Ranking. One of golf's most consistent performers who's known for his short-game wizardry and clutch shot-making, he stands fourth in all-time earnings on the PGA TOUR.

Launched in 2004, TOUR GCX members purchase a pre-determined number of golf rounds that can be used at any private club in the TOUR GCX network. Individual and corporate members sample the private experience without making the traditional long-term social and financial commitments associated with joining a private golf club.

In addition to playing golf on a variable basis, TOUR GCX members have access to single-day member / guest outings and tournaments. Individual memberships start at $2,450 annually and membership fees cover cart and greens fees for TOUR GCX members and their guests.

Corporate members have a convenient and flexible solution to entertain customers at private golf clubs. TOUR GCX also affords corporate members the opportunity to allocate pre-purchased golf rounds toward custom mini outings for up to 32 players.

VOLUNTEER OF THE YEAR: Phyllis Wade has been named the 2007 PGA TOUR Volunteer of the Year, TOUR officials have announced.

Wade has served as a volunteer for the past 60 years at the Northern Trust Open, as well as several other PGA TOUR tournaments. During this time, she has seen the likes of Ben Hogan, Arnold Palmer, Jack Nicklaus and Tiger Woods inside the ropes at Riviera Country Club, and she has volunteered in virtually every capacity in assuring the success of the event.

Currently, the Santa Monica, Calif., resident spends most of her time in the media center during tournament week, where she clips and copies newspaper articles and answers the telephone. Her story of volunteerism has been chronicled in several national news outlets this year, including The New York Times, USA TODAY, Sports Illustrated and The Los Angeles Times.

BANK SPONSORS CABRERA: SG Private Banking has signed a three-year sponsorship contract with 2007 U.S. Open champion Angel Cabrera, company officials have announced. The 38-year-old Cabrera, ranked No. 15 in the world in 2007, was recently elected "Sportsman of the Year" in Argentina.

By associating its image with Angel Cabrera, SG Private Banking is strengthening its presence in the world of top-level golf. The private bank also sponsors French golfer Christian Cevaer.

This new partnership confirms Societe Generale's commitment to the development of golf. Societe Generale has been the Official Partner of the French Golf Federation since 2001 and as of this year will be the presenting sponsor of the Evian Masters on the LPGA Tour. It also has been an official partner" of the French Open on the European Tour.

Societe Generale also supports four other professional golfers: Gwladys Nocéra, ranked No. 3 in Europe in 2007; Sophie Gicquel, who this year is mainly playing on the LPGA Tour; Cassandra Kirkland; and Gregory Bourdy, ranked No. 3 in France in 2007.
