Denver grabs lead over UCLA in first round of NCAA women's finals

OWINGS MILLS, Md. (AP) -- Catherine O'Donnell of North Carolina and Stephanie Sherlock of the University of Denver both shot a 2-under-par 70 on Tuesday to share the lead after the opening round of the NCAA Division I women's golf tournament.

Stephanie Connelly of Central Florida, Ginny Brown of Tennessee, Nannette Hill of Wake Forest and Jennifer Song of South California were at 72 after 18 holes in the four-day tournament at Caves Valley Golf Club.

Denver held the team lead by two strokes over UCLA. North Carolina was five strokes off the lead in third place, two shots ahead of USC.
