
Frank Bensel of Cos Cob, Conn., finished 2008 as the top money-winner as well as scoring leader in the six-event Srixon PGA Tournament Series.
Bensel, 40, a PGA assistant professional at Century Country Club in Purchase, N.Y., has been one of the leading performers in the Metropolitan PGA Section for more than a decade. He upheld his playing reputation by winning the final two Srixon PGA Tournament Series events, Dec. 16 and 19.
He led the money list with $15,987.50, while Rod Perry of Port Orange, Fla., was next at $10,506.43, followed by Brian Cairns of Waterford, Mich., with $10, 421.43 and Rick Schuller of Chester, Va., with $10,008.33.
Bensel also posted the best stroke average with a 69.91 average based on 12 rounds. Cairns was next with a 69.40 average, followed by Perry at 69.60 and Mike San Filippo of Hobe Sound, Fla., with 69.66.
The Srixon PGA Tournament Series, conducted by The PGA of America for the 32nd season, featured a total purse of $205,500, and had 187 entrants representing 29 states and Brazil.
The Srixon PGA Tournament Series was conducted throughout December at the PGA Golf Club and PGA Country Club in Port St. Lucie and in Palm City, Fla., at Hammock Creek Golf Club and in Stuart, Fla., at The Florida Club.
