Northern California's Sue Fiscoe heads six new PGA Board members

NEW ORLEANS -- Sue Fiscoe of Modesto, Calif., the first female to serve as a PGA Section president, has become the first woman district director appointed to the PGA of America's Board of Directors. Fiscoe joined five other directors, who were sworn in Saturday, Nov. 14, at The PGA's 93rd Annual Meeting at The Ritz Carlton in New Orleans.

Fiscoe; Hunt Gilliland of Chattanooga, Tenn.; Ronny Glanton of Richardson, Texas; Asuka (pronounced "Ah-ska") Nakahara of Merion, Pa., the first Asian-American to be appointed to the Board; Michael Tucker of St. Louis; and Zach Johnson of St. Simons, Ga., will each serve three-year terms.

The PGA Board of Directors is composed of the Association's President, Vice President, Secretary, Honorary President and 17 Directors. The Directors include representatives from each of The PGA's 14 Districts, two Independent Directors and a Player Director of the PGA Tour. New District Directors are elected by their local PGA Sections.

Fiscoe

Sue Fiscoe, 59, is a native of Syracuse, N.Y., and succeeds Matthew Hall of Kahuku, Hawaii, as District 11 Director, serving the Aloha, Northern California and Southern California PGA Sections. Fiscoe becomes the fourth woman overall to serve on the PGA Board of Directors.

Fiscoe brings more than 25 years of golf industry experience to the PGA Board, including 10 years of managing three public facilities. She turned professional in 1974 and earned LPGA Class A status in 1980. Fiscoe was elected to PGA membership in 1995, and was the Northern California PGA president from 2005 to 2007. Fiscoe is the owner of FM (Fiscoe Management), a golf management company that she founded in 1990 and which operates Dryden Park, Creekside Golf Course and at Modesto Municipal Golf Course, a nine-hole facility that also serves as a First Tee facility. Fiscoe is PGA director of golf at all of the facilities.

Fiscoe competed on the women's mini tours and attempted to advance through the LPGA Tour Qualifying School before settling into a career as a teacher and golf administrator. She served as a Playing Ability Test (PAT) and employment administrator for the LPGA Western Section for many years, but gained the majority of her day-to-day golf administration experience while working for 10 years at Palo Alto (Calif.) Municipal Golf Course.

Gilliland

Hunt Gilliland, who succeeds Frank Gumpert II of Baton Rouge, La., as District 3 Director for the Dixie, Gulf States and Tennessee Sections, was elected to membership in 1983. Since 1996, he has served as PGA director of golf at Council Fire Golf Club in Chattanooga, Tenn.

Gilliland, 54, has served since 2008 as president of the Tennessee PGA Section, having been a Section board member since 2001. He was a former resident of the South Florida PGA Section, and was chair of the Tournament and Sponsorship Committees, and a member of the Section Tournament and Membership Committees.

Gilliland was the South Florida PGA Player of the Year in 1987 and 1991. Since his move to Tennessee, Gilliland has been chair of the Section Tournament Committee.

Among his community endeavors, Gilliland has served since 1999 as president of The First Tee of Chattanooga, and was chair of the Chattanooga Urban Youth Golf Foundation from 1996-1999. Gilliland was the 2002 Tennessee PGA Professional of the Year; a four-time Chattanooga Chapter Professional of the Year and a two-time Chapter Teacher of the Year.

Glanton

Ronny Glanton, 49, was elected to PGA membership in 1984, and a year later began serving as PGA head professional at Sherrill Park Golf Course in Richardson, Texas. He succeeds Alan Wooley of Marble Falls, Texas, as District 12 Director for the Northern Texas, Southern Texas and Sun Country PGA Sections.

Glanton attended Hardin-Simmons University in Abilene, Texas, on a golf scholarship and turned professional in 1981. He became an active member of the Northern Texas PGA Section, beginning service on the Section board of directors in 1994, and served as Section president from 2006 to 2007. He was named the 1999 and 2007 North Texas PGA Golf Professional of the Year. He is a four-time Section Bill Strausbaugh Award winner and was the 1994 Section Merchandiser of the Year for public facilities.

Tucker

Mike Tucker, 44, was elected to The PGA in 1990, and since 1996 has served as PGA head professional at Bellerive Country Club in St. Louis. He succeeds Randy Hunt of Overland Park, Kan., as District 7 Director for the Gateway, Midwest and South Central PGA Sections.

Tucker attended Southern Illinois University, before becoming an assistant professional at Bellerive. In 1989, Tucker began a two-year term as assistant professional at Old Warson Country Club in St. Louis; followed by serving from 1990 to 1993 as PGA head professional at Green Hills Country Club in Mount Vernon, Ill.

In 1994, Tucker was named associate professional at Bellerive Country Club, and two years later became head professional. He was the 2003 Gateway PGA Section Player of the Year and 2004 Section Golf Professional of the Year. In addition, he was a two-time Section Merchandiser of the Year, and from 2003 to 2004, served as Section president.

Nakahara

Asuka ("Ah-ska") Nakahara, 53, is a native of Kyoto, Japan, and is the associate director of the Zell-Lurie Real Estate Center at Wharton School of Business at the University of Pennsylvania. Nakahara succeeds Mary Bea Porter King of Lihue, Hawaii, as an Independent Director.

Nakahara is a 1977 graduate in civil engineering from Rice University, and earned an MBA in 1980 from Harvard Business School. His board directorships include ING Clarion Global Real Estate Income Fund, the Philadelphia Foundation, the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia and Merion Golf Club in Ardmore, Pa. Since January 2008, he has served on the PGA of America's Finance Committee.

Nakahara's work at Wharton focuses on strategy, membership, student placement and programs. He also teaches an MBA course in the Real Estate Department titled "Real Estate Development." And, he has served as lecturer, speaker, panelist or moderator for Harvard Law School, New York University, University of Pennsylvania's School of Design, the National Association of Industrial and Office Parks (NAIOP) and The PGA of America. Prior to his Wharton responsibilities, Nakahara was a partner and chief financial officer of Trammell Crow Company, a major real estate development and services firm.

Zach Johnson, 33, replaces Brad Faxon as Player Director, and is a native of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, a 1998 graduate of Drake University and who turned professional that same year. Johnson went on to earn PGA Tour status after earning 2003 Nationwide Player of the Year honors. The winner of six PGA Tour events, Johnson became the second native Iowan to win a major golf championship when he captured the 2007 Masters Tournament. He followed Jack Fleck, formerly of Davenport, Iowa, who stunned the golf world in 1955 with a U.S. Open playoff triumph over the legendary Ben Hogan.
