The top players from last season are among the 54 entries in the opening event of the 34th PGA Tournament Series. The first of six 36-hole events concludes Tuesday on the Wanamaker Course at PGA Golf Club in Port St. Lucie, Fla. Heading the field are Rick Schuller of Chester, Va., the leading money-winner a year ago with $8,181.50 while playing in all six tournaments, and Rod Perry of Daytona Beach, Fla., who had a stroke average of 68.333 for six rounds. Coincidentally, Schuller's was the lowest money total to lead the Tournament Series, and Perry’s stroke average was the best since the Series began in 1977. Also joining the field is Sonny Skinner, PGA teaching professional at River Pointe Golf Club in Albany, Ga. Last year, Skinner won the opening Series event, and returned to PGA Golf Club later in the winter to become one-half of the winning PGA Senior-Junior Championship team and then rolled to the PGA Match Play Championship.
