PALM BEACH GARDENS, Fla. -- Brown Capital Management, an investment management firm based in Baltimore, Md., has reached an agreement with The PGA of America to become presenting sponsor of the 25th PGA Minority Collegiate Golf Championship and the one-hour Golf Channel Highlight Show.

The 25th PGA Minority Collegiate Golf Championship will be conducted, May 6-8, for the 14th consecutive year at PGA Golf Club in Port St. Lucie, Fla.

"The PGA of America is very proud that Brown Capital Management has joined in supporting the only Collegiate Championship owned and operated by The PGA of America," said PGA of America President Allen Wronowski. "This Championship is aligned perfectly with The PGA's commitment to diversity in our great game."

Founded in 1983, Brown Capital Management Inc. is an investment management firm that oversees investment programs for serious long-term investors.

"We are proud to join The PGA of America in the support of a championship, launched by exceptional leaders, who celebrate the merits of academic and athletic excellence and diversity," said Brown Capital Management President and CEO Eddie Brown."

The PGA of America also unveiled a new PGA Minority Collegiate Golf Championship logo, which will coincide with the 25th edition of the Championship.

"We are also proud to unveil a new Championship logo, which shows the stability and prestige of this National Championship," said Wronowski.

The PGA Minority Collegiate Golf Championship presented by Brown Capital Management and celebrating its 25th anniversary in 2011, originated from a meeting in November 1986 following the Jackson State University Golf Tournament. The meeting resulted in a group of founders: the late Dr. Herschel Cochrane, Dr. Joe D. Saunders of the National Negro Golf Association; Jackson State University Golf Coach Eddie Payton; Rose Harper-Elder of the Sports Management Institute; and William (Bill) Dickey, founder of the Bill Dickey Scholarship Association and recipient of the 1999 PGA Distinguished Service Award.

The founders' goal was to elevate the game of golf in minority colleges and universities by giving each a chance to compete in a championship after being denied opportunities to compete in NCAA Collegiate golf events. The inaugural Championship was conducted in the spring of 1987 at Highland Park Golf Course in Cleveland, Ohio. Since 1998, PGA Golf Club in Port St. Lucie, Fla., has been host to the Championship, and in 2006, The PGA of America was granted complete ownership and management of the Championship by the National Minority College Golf Scholarship Fund.
