Southern Ohio PGA Section to lead Junior Golf Clinic

The Southern Ohio PGA Section will have 10 PGA Professionals at the Longaberger Golf Club practice range to provide instruction for the approximately 50 youths from eight area youth organizations scheduled to attend.

NASHPORT, Ohio (PGA.com) -- The PGA of America and the Southern Ohio PGA Section will team to present a Junior Golf Clinic on Tues., June 22, at 3 p.m. EDT, in conjunction with the 37th PGA Club Professional Championship at Longaberger Golf Club in Nashport, Ohio.

The clinic, conducted at Longaberger Golf Club's practice range, will feature approximately 50 youths from eight area youth organizations from Columbus, Dayton and Zanesville. The Southern Ohio PGA Section will have 10 PGA Professionals on hand to provide instruction. Guest instructors include defending PGA Club Professional Champion Tim Thelen of Richmond, Texas; Southern Ohio PGA President Gary Dixon of Dornoch Golf Club in Delaware, Ohio, and Longaberger Golf Club Director of Golf Danny Ackerman.

Mike Crotty, head professional at Safari Golf Club in Powell, Ohio, and District 5 PGA Director, will serve as master of ceremonies. Crotty was winner of the 1991 PGA Junior Golf Leader award.

The CPC Junior Clinic features young men and women from The First Tee of Columbus, The First Tee at Cooks Creek; Central Ohio Junior Golf Association, Morty's Kids, the Zanesville Golf Association; City of Columbus Junior Golf Program and the Dayton Youth Golf Academy.

The clinic will feature in-depth instruction in driving, iron shots, bunker play, chipping and pitching and putting geared for the intermediate to advanced junior golfer.

The 37th CPC opens Thursday at Longaberger, and will be televised live by The Golf Channel, Thursday through Sunday, June 24-27, to more than 58 million viewers in the United States and Canada.
