Kang, 17, of California leads by three after first round of U.S. Girls’ Junior

Danielle Kang of Thousand Oaks, Calif., shot 5-under 67 to take a three-stroke lead after the opening round of the U.S. Girls’ Junior Championship on Monday. Kang, 17, had three consecutive birdies on Nos. 5-7 at The Country Club of North Carolina. Megan Khang of Rockland, Mass. -- one of three 12-year-olds in the field -- was tied at 70 with Summar Roachell of Conway, Ark., and Ginger Howard of Bradenton, Fla. Canada?s Jisoo Keel had a 71. Three others were at 72, and 2007 champion Kristen Park of Buena Park, Calif., was at 73. The second round is Tuesday, and then the 156-player field will be cut to 64 for the beginning of match play Wednesday.
