To paraphrase Mark Twain, reports of our demise here at Melrose Golf Club have been greatly exaggerated. To wit, check out our closing hole and it's place on The Dream 18 of South Carolina. Melrose Golf Club here on Daufuskie Island has seen a change in ownership, some changes to our business model and some turnover in personnel. But the one thing we do not change or compromise is our commitment to excellence in the golf experience you will have when you come visit. To speak of the Melrose Golf Club experience, you have to start with arriving at the course - possibly unlike any arrival you've ever had. To get here, you will need to take the ferry from Hilton Head Island to Daufuskie Island, just under an hour ride watching dolphins, the reefs and the very picturesque shorelines and marinas. The first 15 holes of our signature four-and-a-half star Jack Nicklaus design are just as you would hope; beautiful, challenging and memorable. But our three closing holes are spectacular on a new level, capped by our world famous finishing hole. It's a 560 yard par 5 that offers a split fairway, a beautiful panaramoic view of the Atlantic and an opportunity to play strategic or daring, make eagle or double bogey, but always with a smile and a sense of accomplishment. On the 18th tee, you have a decision to make. You can play the hole safe, go down the left side and hit driver, long iron and then a short iron to an undulating green. The landing areas are generous and making a par, though still a challenge, is a fair opportunity for most golfers. But for those with a little more gumption, or a need for a little better score, they can play this hole down the right side - carrying over a portion of the Atlantic to reach the green. Can you make a three? Yes, I've seen it. Can you make a ten? Well, I've seen that too. But what I always see, are golfers excited about their round as they walk in to our shop when they are finished. "That's one awesome hole," they always tell me. "It's one of the best," I reply. And thanks to The Dream 18 of South Carolina, now all of you should know it too.
