The course is really playing well. Greens look awesome. Our new Bent Hybrid made it through the record hot summer last year, and offers more months of lively growing greens in the spring and fall. Thanks for all your compliments. Be sure to call me if you want to play the course some time.
Arthur Hills is know for his challanging design and Westhaven is no exception. Westhaven is the kind of course that requires strategy and solid iron play. You must hit the greens to score well. You need to play the course at least 5-6 times before you have developved a strategy that you can use that best suits your skill level. It has two par four holes that are only about 300 yards but they both demand discipline off the tee and solid wedge play. From the members tees it has four par four holes that are well over 400 yards. It has two of the toughest par three holes anywhere in the mid state. There are no easy holes on this course. Every hole is designed to show you its "teeth" if you hit a poor shot.
The course has bermuda fairways that love the heat. We certainly have had plenty of heat this simmer (sic). The fairways are in great shape. The bent grass greens have held up surprisingly well this summer, despite the heat.
The bermuda rough is high off the edges of the greens - generally 3-4 inches thick. It is a difficult course to scramble for a par if you miss the green.
I like to walk the course about half the time. It is a very walker friendly club. Their rules require you to have a three wheel push cart or carry your bag. You can walk anytime the course is open. They have plenty of cold water stations sprinkled across the course every few holes.
They have a really nice practice facility. You need to practice in their chipping and bunker area before you play. The bunker sand is thicker than some courses in the area. You probably will have numerous sand attempts during the round. Get ready!
Westhaven probably represents the best Country Club value in mid Tennessee. I'm excited to hear the clubhouse will be opening next July.
The course is located in a quiet and serene setting, designed to fit the site. It is maturing nicely, and will eventually be quite spectacular. The club staff are friendly and dedicated to making each round enjoyable. When the tennis courts, swimming pool and club house are completed, Westhaven will have all the amenities that any family can enjoy completely. Join soon - this opportunity won't last long!
Played eighteen holes while visiting friends (members at West Haven). This course requires more thought than the typical “grip-it and rip-it” style course. After a couple of holes and some friendly advise, I found that developing a strategy for each hole was very beneficial. Shot accuracy is at a premium. Like all great course – if you get greedy, you will get in trouble – fast! I would love to play in a Select Shot tournament here.
I highly recommend this club especially for families, couples and those who like a relaxed environment. The staff and members are all very friendly. The course is challenging but the fairways are pretty wide open. There is water in play on almost half of the holes. The practice facilities are great, I enjoy the driving range, putting green, practice bunkers and chipping green!@
