Mix it up!

Mix up your practice routine to learn to execute shots.  Hit a few warm up shots with your favorite club maybe a mid-iron or fairway metal.  Next, grab your gap wedge and imagine a shot on your home course with a specific target. Hit 1 to 3 shots.  Then move to your 5 iron.  Again hit only a few, no more than 3.  The idea is working towards one ball, one shot just like playing the game.  Adapting to the varied lengths and lofts while you are moving from longer shafted clubs to shorter ones will only help you with shot execution on the course.  You will begin to feel more confident.
