The PGA of America has announced that Golf Pride and SkyGolf have been named presenting sponsors of the 9th PGA Jones Cup, Oct. 19-20 at PGA Golf Club in Port St. Lucie, Fla. The PGA Jones Cup, a 36-hole tournament featuring the top five players from each of the 20 PGA Golf Management University programs, is named for the first PGA Golf Management University Program Director at Mississippi State University, Dr. Roland S. Jones. Dr. Jones held the position at the University from 1985 until his passing in 1997. The event, contested for the third consecutive year at PGA Golf Club, provides a platform whereby participants can display professionalism, integrity, character and camaraderie; all characteristics Dr. Jones instilled in PGA Golf Management students. "The PGA of America is proud to partner with Golf Pride and SkyGolf for an event that honors the memory of Dr. Jones and features our Association's future members," said PGA of America President Jim Remy. "Both Golf Pride and SkyGolf are well-respected in the golf industry and provide quality products to many of our members." SkyGolf, maker of SkyCaddie, the #1 rangefinder in golf, is providing the use of their new SkyCaddie SGX for the competition, along with training and a technology seminar on the future of GPS and digital applications. "At SkyGolf, our mission, just like The PGA of America, is to grow the game by helping golfers play better and have more fun," said SkyGolf President & COO Rich Stamper. "SkyGolf is honored to serve as a co-sponsor of the 9th PGA Jones Cup, and we wish all of the participants the best of luck." Golf Pride, the global leader in golf grip innovation and technology, is providing a closest-to-the-pin contest. "Golf Pride is proud to be a presenting sponsor of the PGA Jones Cup as part of our ongoing efforts to support PGA Golf Management University programs," said Dan Koehler, director of sales and marketing for Eaton's Golf Grip Division. "We look forward to an exciting tournament." All participating universities in the PGA Jones Cup are schools accredited by The PGA of America to offer the four-and-one half to five-year PGA Golf Management University Program for aspiring PGA Professionals. The college curriculum provides extensive classroom studies, internship experience and player development, and affords students the opportunity to acquire knowledge and skills to succeed in the golf industry as a PGA Professional. Students in the PGA Golf Management University Program study a combination of golf and business-related subjects, as well as serve a minimum of 16 months in on-course internships within the golf industry.
