12th Hole-Rivertowne Country Club, Hole 12
by Ray Garbiras, General Manager
What makes for a great golf hole? Some say it's beauty, the aesthetics that surround the hole mean you'll remember the hole forever. Others say it's sheer design, from well placed framing bunkers and trees to forced carries and subtle slopes that give the hole definition. Others may claim challenge - no hole that easily gives up a par or birdie is great. And of course, most will say it's a combination of all three.
Here at Rivertowne Country Club, we are proud that our 12th hole meets all of those criteria and then some. From the tips, this hole is 451 yards of amazing views, careful strategy, ominous hazards and a strong test of all your golf skill.
The hole - and entire course - was designed by The King, Arnold Palmer. And though you don't have to be a a seven-time major championship winner to play the hole well, it can't hurt! The hole will test all of your game, you will need length, accuracy, smart thinking and an artist's touch to play this hole well. Or sometimes sheer luck can help too, but I'd take my chances on having the shots needed rather than hoping for a fortunate bounce here and there.
The video above will share with you the layout and shots you'll need to play this hole. But on behalf of the entire staff here at Rivertowne, we want to encourage you to enjoy every aspect of our facility. From the moment you step out of your car to the time you get back in, we are committed to providing you a level of service and appreciation that you'll be hard pressed to meet anywhere else. There's a reason we've been named to so many prestigious course lists including the "2011 Best Public Courses You Can Play" list from South Carolina magazine and of course, this list of "The Hidden Gems of South Carolina."
The next time you're in the Charleston area, come pay us a visit. We think you'll agree that Hole No. 12 is spectacular in every sense of the word - as is everything about Rivertowne.
