Increasing Swing Speed

Everyone wants more distance off the tee, but how do you go about getting it? PGA Professional Krista Dunton shares a couple of ideas on how to increase your swing speed using some simple practice methods.

Turn Away From Your Slice

One of the most important keys in fixing a slice permanently is to learn to swing the clubhead on an inside-to-out swing path through impact. In order to swing the club head into the golf ball from the inside of your target line, a full turn of the shoulders in the backswing is required.

Don't 'Come on over'

Even with the best fundamentals, it's too easy to get quick with the start of the downswing when we are trying to hit it extra hard or because we're a bit nervy. This usually leads to the clubhead casting or the body lunging forward on the downswing, resulting in a loss of distance and direction -- commonly referred to as "coming over the top."

Casting recall: Stop the power loss

One of the most common errors that teachers see when giving lessons is the person who "casts" the club from the top to start the downswing.
