Fashion Blog: Two views of men's fashion, half a world apart

You can't get more different than Boo Weekly and Ian Poulter, but Annmarie Dodd and Argy Koutsothanasis found much to like in each of their new apparel collections. Our fashion mavens are also very mad about plaid.

ORLANDO, Fla. -- Boo Weekley and Ian Poulter, how much do you think these two (besides a putter) have in common? We like to think of them as country folk. These countries may be half a world apart, literally and figuratively, and they’re both infusing their first golf collections with the elements of their home.

Boo has that "aw-shucks" easy manner of a Southern outdoorsman who will fish, hunt and play golf while the sun shines. And Ian, he’s taken the high-street dandy of the 1970s and put it in a blender to come up with a golf line that's all cheek and iconoclastic at the same time.

He's taking the classic approach to Brit style and adding humor to it. We can't believe we're at the point that we're seriously considering the appeal of both a Union Jack cashmere vest and a rainshirt in a full-on Mossy Oak duck blind camoflage.

It could be done, but certainly NOT together.

Ian's collection touches on many of the best trends for men we're seeing on the show floor. A return to classic patterns. Regal shades of purple. And the player is mad for plaid.

And so are we.

Plaid is fall staple, but it's being reinterpreted this season with subdued fall tones and just a hint of color. We saw some of the best plaids at RLX Golf, Peter Millar, Adidas Golf, Greg Norman Collection, Tehama, House of Carrington, Dunning Golf and we spotted the pattern-hip brand, Lija.
