First Lady of Golf Annika Sorenstam headlines PGA of America Award Winners
PALM BEACH GARDENS, Fla. -- PGA First Lady of Golf Annika Sorenstam of Orlando, Fla., and PGA Golf Professional of the Year Michael Doctor of Camillus, N.Y., headined the 2013 PGA of America National Awards ceremoney, which was held Jan. 22, in conjunction with the 61st PGA Merchandise Show. The ceremony was conducted at in the Chapin Theater of the Orange County Convention Center in Orlando, Fla.
Sörenstam, a PGA/LPGA Professional, followed one of the most decorated careers in women's golf history by becoming a spokesperson for improving the health and well-being of the next generation. The 43-year-old Sörenstam, who also served as honorary "starter" at the Show's Grand Opening, Jan. 22, is the first internationally born golfer to be named PGA First Lady of Golf.
Doctor, 62, is his 29th season as PGA head professional at Skaneateles (N.Y.) Country Club, is the second member of the Central New York PGA Section, following Harry Shepard of Elmira, N.Y., in 1956, to receive the PGA of America's highest annual honor bestowed upon a PGA member.
Other recipients of 2013 PGA of America Awards honored were:

The 2013 PGA Merchandisers of the Year were honored Jan. 17, at the Hammock Beach Resort in Palm Coast, Fla. They were:

-- Richard Kline of Kutztown, Pa. -- Public Facilities
-- Scott Paris of Westfield, N.J. -- Private Facilities
The PGA bestowed two national awards last Nov. 23, at the 97th Annual Meeting in San Diego, Calif. The recipients and awards:
-- Bob Beach of Braintree, Mass. -- Patriot Award
-- Tennessee PGA Section -- Herb Graffis Award (for exemplary contributions to Player Development)
