Bubba Watson throws out first pitch at Pensacola Blue Wahoos game – again
In the last couple of days, we've seen golfers from Cheyenne Woods and Lexi Thompson to Paula Creamer and Michelle Wie throw out – or chip – the first pitch at baseball games from coast to coast. Now it's time to add Masters champion Bubba Watson to the 2014 "first pitch" list.
Bubba's throw on Thursday stands out, though, because it marks the second time in three years that he's done the honors at a Pensacola Blue Wahoos minor league game – he also threw out the first pitch there after he won his first Masters in the spring of 2012. Watson wore his Green Jacket this year, whereas he was a little more casual back in 2012, and made an easy toss right over the plate.
His pitch was the capper of "Bubba Watson Day" in the Pensacola area, where Watson grew up. He also visited his old high school in nearby Milton, Fla. – where he took the selfie that's posted above – and dropped in on Osceola Municipal Golf Course, where he mingled with young golfers from the First Tee of Northwest Florida program and the Greater Pensacola Junior Golf Association.
The day after Watson won the Masters, one of his representatives called The First Tee office and said he wanted to come visit with kids, according to The Pensacola News-Journal. "For guys who have attained incredible success like Bubba, it's easy to give out of your pocket, but it's way harder to give out of your time like he has done," said First Tee Executive Director Marty Stanovich.
The newspaper has a complete story on Watson's big day, and you can read it here.
