PGA Golf Club's Wanamaker Course receives high rankings

PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. -- The PGA Golf Club's Wanamaker Course is moving up in the ratings.

In the latest ranking of "Golfweek's Best: State-by-State Courses You can Play 2016 in Florida" -- the Wanamaker Course moved up five spots, from No. 21 to No. 16. Also, The Golf Channel's course rating website, Golf Advisor, ranked Wanamaker one of the top-five courses in South Florida.

The Wanamaker Course had significant turf work completed on it last year, targeting fairways, bunker surrounds, along with the planting of several ornamental species to reframe holes.

"The Golfweek ranking is further validation the enhancements made to Wanamaker appeal to serious golfers who appreciate solid design, challenging shot values and superb conditions," PGA Golf Club General Manager Jimmy Terry said in a release.

The course is named in honor of Rodman Wanamaker, who in 1916 played a key role in the birth of The PGA of America. The course was designed by Tom Fazio and opened in 1996.

Double aces

It is a rare occurrence to witness a hole-in-one, but the odds of seeing two players do it on the same hole are off the chart.

Pat Rooney Sr., of Palm Beach Gardens and owner of the Palm Beach Kennel Club, along with his friend Dan Boyle, of Philadelphia, pulled off the unthinkable March 19 at Trump National Jupiter.

Boyle used an 8-iron on the 135-yard, No. 4 hole and hit it in the cup. Rooney, 77, followed up with a rescue 6-iron that also went in.

According to the National Hole In One Association that has collected data for the past 30 years, the odds of two amateurs making a hole-in-one in the same foursome are 1 in 26 million.
