Colombia's Nicolas Echavarria leads Latin American Amateur

LA ROMANA, Dominican Republic (AP) — Colombia's Nicolas Echavarria shot a 7-under 65 on Friday to take a three-stroke lead after the second round of the Latin American Amateur Championship.

The winner Sunday will receive a spot in the Masters and the U.S. Amateur and British Amateur.

Echavarria had a 7-under 137 total on Casa De Campo's Teeth of the Dog course. The Arkansas senior had an eagle and seven birdies in a 12-hole stretch, but made a double bogey on the par-4 17th.

Argentina's Alejandro Tosti was second after a 65, and Bolivia's Jose Luis Montano was another stroke back after a 69. Tosti is a sophomore at Florida, and Montano is a sophomore at Xavier of Ohio.
