CHIANG MAI, Thailand -- Sattaya Supuppramai of Thailand and Indonesia's George Gandranata shared a surprise lead after opening with rounds of 6-under 66 at the $750,000 Chiang Mai Golf Classic on Thursday.

Sattaya and Gandranata each shot seven birdies and a bogey to be one stroke clear of Mardan Mamat of Singapore.

Jason Dufner, the 2013 U.S. PGA Championship winner, ended his roller-coaster round with three birdies in the last five holes for a 69 and a share of 11th place.

"My front nine was a little slow to start but I played better on the back. I'm glad to finish under par," Dufner said.

South Africa's Charl Schwartzel, the 2011 Masters champion, opened with a 77. Retired Thai tennis star Paradorn Srichaphan, who was playing as an amateur, carded an 80.
