Phil Mickelson says Quail Hollow ‘perfect’ for PGA Championship

The Quail Hollow Club is no stranger to the PGA Tour. The Charlotte, NC course has hosted the Wells Fargo Championship, this weekend's PGA Tour event, since 2003.

But this year the Wells Fargo Championship was moved to Wilimington, NC, as Quail Hollow will play host the PGA Championship in August.

Phil Mickelson is perfectly happy with that.

Mickelson — who had his best second place finish at the 2010 Wells Fargo Championship — made a pit stop en route to Wilmington this weekend. He couldn't pass up a chance to play at Quail Hollow.

"It's very hard," Mickelson told the Golf Channel. "It's going to be a perfect site for the PGA Championship,” Mickelson said. “You don't have to do much to it because the course is straightforward, a tough test of golf and very well done.

"I'm just happy for the club of Quail Hollow and [club president] Johnny Harris for all that they've done for the game of golf to get the reward of the PGA Championship and hopefully some more big events; hopefully President Cups or Ryder Cups or more majors because it really is a special place."

It won't be the only time another event other than the Wells Fargo Classic is held at Quail Hollow, either. The course is scheduled to host the 2021 Presidents Cup.
