Golden Bear returns to Father-Son event

ORLANDO, Fla. (AP) — Jack Nicklaus always said family was more important than golf. December is one time of the year he gets to do both.

Nicklaus and his son, Gary, headline the 20-team field for the PNC Father-Son Challenge that will be played Dec. 12-13 at The Ritz-Carlton Golf Club. It will be the 14th time that Jack Nicklaus plays in the event, and the seventh time for Gary Nicklaus. They won in 1999.

"Although I don't play much golf any more, I look forward to every opportunity to play golf with my family," Jack Nicklaus said. "To do so in a competitive, yet fun, environment just underlines how special it is. I will be riding the broad shoulders of my son and we'll just see how we do. One thing I know for certain is we will have a blast."

The defending champions are Bernhard Langer and his 15-year-old son Jason, who last year became the youngest son to win the tournament. That broke the record held by Jason's brother, Stefan Langer, who was 15 when he won with his father in 2005.

Langer, the two-time Masters champion, set a Champions Tour record this year by winning his third Charles Schwab Cup trophy.

Also returning is Davis Love III, who won the Wyndham Championship this year at age 51, and son Dru Love, who plays at Alabama. They were runner-up a year ago.

The 20-team field includes 10 Ryder Cup captains — Nicklaus, Langer, Love, Nick Faldo, Raymond Floyd, Tom Lehman, Dave Stockton, Curtis Strange and Lanny Wadkins. Fuzzy Zoeller, a Masters and U.S. Open champion, again will play with his daughter, Gretchen.
