Purse: $7 million. Winner's share: $1.26 million.
 
Last year: Brandt Snedeker won the event for the second time in three years, beating Nick Watney by three strokes. Snedeker finished at 22-under 265 to break his own tournament record.
 
Last week: Hideki Matsuyama won the Phoenix Open for his second PGA Tour victory. The Japanese player beat Rickie Fowler with a par on the fourth hole of a playoff.
 
Notes: Top-ranked Jordan Spieth and No. 3 Jason Day are in the field. Spieth opened the year with a victory at Kapalua. He also finished fifth in Abu Dhabi and was second in Singapore. ... Phil Mickelson won in 1998, 2005, 2007 and 2012. He tied for 11th last week in Scottsdale. ... Snedeker won two weeks ago at Torrey Pines. ... The final round will be played at Pebble Beach. ... The Northern Trust Open is next week at Riviera in Los Angeles, followed by the Honda Classic in Florida.

Last week: Mexico's Esteban Toledo won the Allianz Championship in Boca Raton, beating Billy Andrade on the third hole of a playoff.
 
Notes: The event is the third of the season. Duffy Waldorf won the season-opening Mitsubishi Electric Championship in Hawaii on Jan. 23. ... Fred Couples won the 2010 event for his first senior victory. ... Bernhard Langer won in 2011 and 2013, was second in 2012 and tied for second in 2014. ... The tour is off the next four weeks. Play will resume March 18-20 with the Tucson Conquistadores Classic.
