HYUNDAI TOURNAMENT OF CHAMPIONS
 
Site: Kapalua, Hawaii.
Schedule: Thursday-Sunday.
Course: Kapalua Resort, The Plantation Course (7,452 yards, par 73).
Purse: $5.9 million. Winner's share: $1.18 million.
 
Last year: Patrick Reed beat Jimmy Walker with an 18-foot birdie putt on the first playoff hole. Four shots behind with four holes left, Reed holed an 80-yard shot for eagle and made two birdies.
 
Last event: Kevin Kisner won the RSM Classic on Nov. 22 at Sea Island in Georgia for his first PGA Tour title. He finished with a 6-under 64 for a six-stroke victory.
 
Notes: Thirty-two of the 36 qualifiers are entered in the event limited to 2015 winners. Rory McIlroy, Justin Rose and Shane Lowry are skipping the tournament and Jim Furyk is sidelined by a left wrist injury. ... Jordan Spieth and Jason Day each won five times last season. ... The tournament is the eighth of the 2015-16 season. ... Ben Crenshaw and Bill Coore designed The Plantation Course on a former pineapple plantation. ... The Sony Open is next week in Honolulu, followed by the CareerBuilder Challenge in La Quinta, California.

Course: Glendower Golf Club (7,564 yards, par 72).
Purse: $965,730. Winner's share: $172,350.
 
Last year: England's Andy Sullivan beat South Africa's Charl Schwartzel with a 12-foot birdie putt on the first hole of a playoff. Sullivan began the final round seven strokes behind Schwartzel.
 
Last event: Australia's Marc Leishman won the Nedbank Challenge in Sun City on Dec. 6. He closed with a 5-under 67 for a six-stroke victory.
 
Notes: Five-time champion Ernie Els tops the South African contingent along with Branden Grace, Trevor Immelman and Retief Goosen. ... Schwartzel withdrew because of a stomach virus. ... First played in 1893, the tournament is the second oldest national championship behind the British Open. ... Gary Player won a record 13 times. ... The Joburg Open and Eurasia Cup are next week.
