Last matches: Tiger Woods scored the deciding point in the United States' 18 1/2-15 1/2 victory in 2013 at Muirfield Village in Ohio. Woods beat Richard Sterne 1 up to finish 4-1. The Americans have won the event five straight times and lead the series 8-1-1.

 

Notes: Spieth won the PGA Tour's season-ending Tour Championship and FedExCup two weeks ago in Atlanta. The 22-year-old Texan also went back to No. 1 in the world, tied Day for the tour victory lead with five and won the Vardon Trophy for lowest adjusted scoring average. Spieth was voted PGA Tour player of the year by his peers las week. ... Phil Mickelson is the only player to appear in every Presidents Cup. ... Holmes was added to the U.S. team when Jim Furyk withdrew because of a left wrist injury. Furyk is serving as an assistant captain. ... Five U.S. players — No 1. Spieth, No. 4 Watson, No. 5 Fowler, No. 8 Dustin Johnson and No. 10 Zach Johnson — are in the top 10 in the world. The second-ranked Day is the only International player in the top 10. ... The International team has a record four Asian players in Bae, Matsuyama, Jaidee and Lahiri. In addition, Lee was born in South Korea. ... Last year: No tournament. The event was last played in 2008.

 

Last week: Denmark's Thorbjorn Olesen won the Alfred Dunhill Links in Scotland. He closed with a 1-under 71 at St. Andews for a two-stroke victory.

 

Notes: English stars Lee Westwood, Luke Donald and tournament host Ian Poulter are in the field along with Northern Ireland's Graeme McDowell. Westwood won the 2007 event at The Belfry. ... The tournament also was played on the Marquess Course in 2001 and 2002. ... The Portugal Masters is next week, followed by the regular-season ending Hong Kong Open.

Course: Kuala Lumpur Golf and Country Club (6,260 yards, par 71).

Purse: $2 million. Winner's share: $300,000.

 

Last year: China's Shanshan Feng closed with an 8-under 63 for a three-stroke victory.

 

Last event: Infuriated by Suzann Pettersen's call against Alison Lee, the United States rallied to beat Europe 14 1/2-13 1/3 in the Solheim Cup on Sept. 20 in Germany. The event turned on the final day when Lee was penalized for picking up her ball when she thought her short putt was conceded in the completion of a fourball match.

 

Notes: Second-ranked Lydia Ko is coming off consecutive victories in the Canadian Pacific Women's Open and Evian Championship, where the 18-year-old New Zealander became the youngest major champion. ... Second-ranked Inbee Park won two majors this year and is tied with Ko for the tour victory lead with four. Park won the 2012 event. ... Ten of the 12 U.S. Solheim Cup players — Lee, Stacy Lewis, Gerina Piller, Angela Stanford, Lexi Thompson, Michelle Wie, Brittany Lang, Morgan Pressel, Lizette Salas and Paula Creamer — are in the field along with European team members Pettersen, Anna Nordqvist, Charley Hull, Sandra Gal, Melissa Reid, Karine Icher and Carlota Ciganda. Thompson won the 2013 tournament. ... The LPGA KEB Hana Bank Championship is next week in South Korea, followed by stops in Taiwan, China and Japan.

Last year: Kirk Triplett won his second 2014 title, finishing with a 3-under 69 for a three-stroke victory over Tom Lehman.

 

Last event: Mexico's Esteban Toledo won the First Tee Open at Pebble Beach on Sept. 27 for his third tour title. He held off 66-year-old Tom Watson by a stroke.

 

Notes: U.S. Senior Open champion Jeff Maggert leads the tour with four victories and is tied with Colin Montgomerie for the Charles Schwab Cup points lead. Montgomerie won the Senior PGA Championship for the second straight year. ... Bernhard Langer is coming off a 24th-place tie Sept. 27 in the European Tour's European Open in Germany. He won at Prestonwood in 2012. ... The San Antonio Championship is next week.
