Schedule: Thursday-Sunday.

Course: TPC River Highlands (6,841 yards, par 70).

Purse: $6.4 million. Winner's share: $1,152,000.

 

Last year: Kevin Streelman birdied the final seven holes for a 6-under 64 and a one-stroke victory. Sergio Garcia and K.J. Choi tied for second.

 

Last week: Jordan Spieth won the U.S. Open at Chambers Bay in Washington to become the sixth player to win the tournament and the Masters in the same year. The 21-year-old Spieth birdied the final hole and won by a stroke when Dustin Johnson three-putted for par.

 

Notes: Streelman, Garcia, Bubba Watson, Patrick Reed, Billy Horschel, Brandt Snedeker, Hunter Mahan and Ernie Els are in the field. ... Cameron Smith tied for fourth in the U.S. Open to earn a spot in the field. He also earned enough FedEx Cup points for special temporary tour membership, allowing him to accept unlimited invites the rest of the season. ... Davis Love III is skipping the U.S. Senior Open to play in the event. He has made only four senior starts since turning 50 in April 2014. ... The Greenbrier Classic is next week in West Virginia.

 

 

U.S. GOLF ASSOCIATION/CHAMPIONS TOUR

U.S. SENIOR OPEN

Schedule: Thursday-Sunday.

Course: Del Paso Country Club (6,994 yards, par 70).

Purse: TBA ($3.35 million in 2014). Winner's share: TBA ($630,000 in 2014).

 

Television: Fox Sports 1 (Thursday-Friday, 2-7 p.m.) and Fox (Saturday-Sunday, 2-7 p.m.)

 

Last year: Colin Montgomerie won at Oak Tree in Oklahoma for his second major victory of the year. The Scot beat Gene Sauers in a three-hole aggregate playoff. Montgomerie also won the Senior PGA and successfully defended that title last month.

 

Last event: Bernhard Langer successfully defended his Senior Players Championship title, winning the major event by six strokes June 14 at Belmont in Massachusetts.

 

Notes: The tournament is the fourth of the Champions Tour's five majors. Jeff Maggert won the Regions Tradition in May, the only one of the last seven majors not won by Montgomerie or Langer. ... Montgomerie tied for 64th last week in the U.S. Open. ... Kevin Sutherland is a Sacramento native and Del Paso member. ... The 2015 event will be played at Scioto in Columbus, Ohio. ... The tour is off next week. Play will resume July 10-12 with the Encompass Championship in Glenview, Illinois.

 

LPGA TOUR

WALMART NW ARKANSAS CHAMPIONSHIP

 

Site: Rogers, Arkansas.

Schedule: Friday-Sunday.

Course: Pinnacle Country Club (6,386 yards, par 71).

Purse: $2 million. Winner's share: $300,000.

 

Last year: Former University of Arkansas player Stacy Lewis won the last of her three 2014 titles. She shot a 65 for a one-stroke victory over Lydia Ko, Cristie Kerr and Angela Stanford.

 

Last event: South Korea's Inbee Park won her third straight Women's PGA Championship on June 14, matching the lowest score in relation to par in a women's major at 19 under. She won by five strokes at Westchester Country Club in New York.

 

Notes: Park regained the No. 1 spot in the world with her Women's PGA victory. She's in the field along with No. 2 Lydia Ko and No. 3 Lewis. Park won the 2013 event. ... Lewis also won the inaugural tournament in 2007, an unofficial victory after the event was cut to 18 holes because of rain. The then-college player shot a 65. ... The tour is off next week. Play will resume July 9-12 with the U.S. Women's Open at Lancaster Country Club in Pennsylvania.

 

EUROPEAN TOUR

BMW INTERNATIONAL OPEN

 

Site: Munich.

Schedule: Thursday-Sunday.

Course: Munich Eichenried Golf Club (7,181 yards, par 72).

Purse: $2.27 million. Winner's share: $426,950.

 

Last year: Fabrizio Zanotti won at Gut Larchenhof to become the first European Tour winner from Paraguay. He beat Henrik Stenson on the fifth hole of a playoff. Rafa Cabrera-Bello was eliminated on the fourth extra hole, and Gregory Havret dropped out on the second.

 

Last event: England's Chris Wood won the Lyoness Open in Austria on June 14 for his second European Tour title.

 

Notes: Martin Kaymer is the lone German champion in tournament history, winning in 2008 at Munich Eichenried. He missed the cut last week in his U.S. Open title defense. ... Sweden's Henrik Stenson is the top-ranked player in the field at No. 7. He tied for 27th in the U.S. Open. ... The French Open is next week, followed by the Scottish Open and British Open.

AIR CAPITAL CLASSIC

 

Site: Wichita, Kansas.

Schedule: Thursday-Sunday.

Course: Crestview Country Club (6,959 yards, par 70).

Purse: $600,000. Winner's share: $108,000.

 

Last year: Monday qualifier Sebastian Cappelen became the first Danish winner in Web.com Tour history. He finished with a 4-under 66 for a one-stroke victory over Matt Weibring.

 

Last event: Shane Bertsch won the Rust-Oleum Championship on June 14 in Westlake, Ohio. Lucas Lee was second, a stroke back.

 

Notes: The tournament is one of four remaining events from the tour's inaugural 1990 season. ... The Nova Scotia Open is next week, followed by the Boise Open.
