More than 350 PGA Professionals have gathered at the San Diego Hotel & Marina for the 97th PGA Annual Meeting. Delegates, comprised of PGA Board members, Past Presidents and representatives of all 41 PGA Sections, will bring into focus the plans that The PGA is developing to further advance golf and empower PGA Professionals to grow the game.

 
 
Bob Beach, PGA head professional at Braintree (Mass.) Municipal Golf Course, who for nearly two decades has been a lead instructor in the New England PGA Section for teaching golf to the physically challenged, has been named recipient of the 2013 Patriot Award. 
 
PGA delegates honor Tennessee PGA Section with 2013 Herb Graffis Award
The Tennessee PGA Section (TPGA), comprised of more than 500 members and apprentices, was presented the 2013 Herb Graffis Award No. 23 during the 97th PGA Annual Meeting. The award is presented annually to a PGA Section that exhibits extraordinary or exemplary contributions in player development and growth of the game programming.
 
The PGA of America's Board of Directors has approved a five-year contract extension through 2018 for Chief Executive Officer Pete Bevacqua. Bevacqua, 42, completed his first year with The PGA having overseen two landmarks in Association and golf industry history.
 
Following the theme of "Charting Our Course," delegates will experience a highly interactive and engaging Annual Meeting through such new elements such as a PGA Annual Meeting App (which delegates can download in advance), and a live Twitter feed. PGA leaders also will hear from former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani, who will focus his keynote address on leadership, and PGA member Lee Trevino, the recipient of the 2013 PGA Distinguished Service Award.
 
Lynn Swann, who helped lead the Pittsburgh Steelers to four Super Bowl wins in the 1970s and 1980s, has been named the new Independent Director on the PGA of America Board of Directors. Swann, who sits on the Board of Directors of several corporations and owns a marketing and consulting company, replaces John Jacob and will serve a three-year term.
 
San Diego Golf Day kicked off the PGA of America’s 97th Annual Meeting on Wednesday. San Diego Interim Mayor Todd Gloria issued a proclamation declaring Nov. 20 as “San Diego Golf Day” at the Balboa Park Festival, and many activities were available for all ages, including SNAG, Birdieball and the PGA Sports Academy, and the Mercedes-Benz Performance Center.
