John DalCorobbo, 51-year-old PGA Assistant at the Brickyard Crossing Golf Course in Speedway, Ind., fired a final-round 69 Sunday at the Bayonet course in Seaside, Calif., to edge Scottsdale's Jim Carter by one stroke, earning his first Senior PGA Professional National Championship.

John DalCorobbo may have won the 2015 Senior PGA Professional National Championship, but there were 34 other happy senior PGA Professionals already planning their upcoming trip next May to Benton Harbor, Mich., after earning invites to the 2016 Senior PGA Championship.

As he headed home from Raleigh early Monday night after flying back from California, Rock Creek Country Club head golf pro Rick Morton had a ready -- and understandable -- answer to how it felt to qualify for the 2016 Senior PGA Championship. "It's awesome," he said.

Brad Lardon of College Station, Texas, making his third appearance in a senior event, fired a bogey-free 6-under-par 66 to grab the lead after Saturday's third round.

James Mason of Dillard, Ga., whose round was jumpstarted by an eagle, shared the second-round lead with Chris Starkjohann of Oceanside, Calif., who had a second straight rollercoaster tour of Bayonet Black Horse.

Carl Cooper of Humble, Texas, fired a Thursday on the Bayonet Course to grab a narrow lead after Thursday's first round. Chris Starkjohann of Oceanside, Calif., and 2013 Champion Gene Fieger of Naples, Florida are tied for second.

University of Tennessee at Chattanooga men's golf coach Mark Guhne has two goals this weekend in Monterey: play his way into the Senior PGA Championship -- and enjoy a California coastal vacation at the same time.

Last year's Senior PGA Professional National Championship ended with Frank Esposito Jr. rolling in a 25-foot birdie putt. No one knows how the 2015 event will end, with one prominent exception: Esposito won't be the one celebrating when the final stroke is played.

The sole leader over the final 33 holes, Frank Esposito Jr., PGA Head Professional at Brooklake Country Club in Florham Park, New Jersey, capped a steady 1-under-par 71 on the Wanamaker Course by making a downhill 25-foot birdie putt on the 72nd hole. With an emphatic fist pump, the 51-year-old sealed a four-stroke victory and his first national championship.
