Preview Notebook: More than 40 schools to play in 2013 Championship

PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. -- The 27th PGA Minority Collegiate Golf Championship presented by Brown Capital Management begins Friday and runs through Sunday at PGA Golf Club.

The 54-hole, stroke-play Championship will feature 200 student-athletes representing more than 40 colleges and universities. They will be competing for a National Championship in six divisions:

• NAIA
• Women's Team Division
• Men's Individual Invitational

TITLE SEEKERS: Four division champions have returned to PGA Golf Club to defend their titles:

• Justin Watkins, the defending Men's Independent Division Champion
• University of Texas-Pan American (Division I Men’s)
• Bethune-Cookman University (Women’s Division)
• Fayetteville State University (Division II Men’s)

Watkins will be seeking his second title in just his second appearance. Bethune-Cookman University’s women’s team will be seeking its Championship-record ninth title, while Fayetteville State University will look for its eighth division victory and Texas-Pan American pursues its sixth men’s Division 1 title.

RASHAD TO SPEAK: Emmy Award-winning sportscaster Ahmad Rashad, a member of the College Football Hall of Fame and a co-host of Golf Channel’s “Morning Drive,” will be the keynote speaker at the 27th PGA Minority Collegiate Golf Championship presented by Brown Capital Management Welcome Dinner on Thursday.

CAREER EXPO: In 1990, a Career Fair was conducted for the first time in conjunction with the National Championship to provide corporate sponsors the opportunity to interview and recruit outstanding college students for future employment.

As a result, the Career Fair has developed into an invaluable resource to assist students in gaining internships and full-time positions within the golf industry. 

A total of 15 golf industry associations and companies will be on site in this year.

HIGHLIGHT SHOW: The 2013 PGA Minority Collegiate Golf Championship presented by Brown Capital Management highlight show will air on Wednesday, July 3 at 9:00 p.m. ET on Golf Channel.

Additional re-air times are Tuesday, July 9 at 2:00 p.m., and Tuesday, July 23 at 2:00 p.m. All times are Eastern.
