LA QUINTA, Calif. – Zach Fischer closed with an 8-under 64 on Tuesday in Q-School to earn top status on the Web.com Tour next year.

This was the first year that Q-School only offered status on the PGA Tour's secondary circuit. Fischer finished at 31-under 401 in the six-round tournament at PGA West. As the medalist, he is assured entry into every Web.com Tour event.

Fischer was just trying to get back to even par after his first-round 75 left him tied for 130th in the 152-man field after the first of six rounds. But he shot 34 under par in his next five rounds and had just three bogeys over the final 90 holes compared to 33 birdies and two eagles.

“Negative. Very negative,” Fischer said when asked to describe his emotions after the first round. He birdied his final two holes of the tournament, making a 25-footer on the final hole, then stood to the side of the green as his playing partners putted out, his hat off and head down, overwhelmed by the emotions of a long week.

Scott Pinckney shot a 68 to finish second. Pinckney and the other players in the top 10 will have full status through 12 tournaments. After that, the priority ranking will be reshuffled depending on the money list. Players who finished between 11th and 45th do not face the reshuffle until after the eighth event.
