The first four players to win a place in the field for The 2004 Open at Royal Troon will be decided in South Africa on Thursday and Friday this week when the first ever International Final Qualifying event is held at Atlantic Beach near Cape Town.

A total of 62 players will be competing for a guaranteed minimum of four places at Troon.

The four-year-old Atlantic Beach links course is at Melkboss on the outskirts of Cape Town and has spectacular views of the ocean and of Table Mountain. The 6,344-metre layout opens with a 517-metre par five and has a par of 72.

Scores will be updated on this website throughout the two days of the 36-hole event and there will be reports at the end of each day.

Four more IFQ events will be played in Australasia, Asia, America and Europe to give a greater number of players the opportunity of taking part in the world's oldest golf championship and to increase the international quality of the field.

The second IFQ will be played at Kingston Heath, Melbourne, Australia on January 20-21.
