12/03/2003 09:54am BST
The closing date for entries to the first International Final Qualifying competition ever held is tomorrow, Thursday, December 4. The event, the first of five to be held throughout the world, will be played at the Atlantic Beach Golf Club, Cape Town, South Africa, on Thursday-Friday, January 8-9, 2004

The new events, introduced for the first time by the R&A, will give international players a greater opportunity to gain a place among the 156 competitors who will battle for The Open Championship title at Royal Troon from July 15-18, 2004.

At least four places in the Open field will be on offer to those who play the IFQ event in South Africa.

The second IFQ event will be played at Kingston Heath Golf Club, Melbourne, Australia, from Tuesday-Wednesday, January 20-21, 2004. The closing date for entries is December 11, 2003.

Late entries can be faxed to the R&A headquarters in St Andrews.
