There will be 2,000 more grandstand seats available for spectators when The Open returns to Royal Troon in July 2004 than when Justin Leonard won the Championship over the famed links in 1997.
From a total of 18,600 seats that will be erected at vantage points around the course, all but 1,500 will be available free of charge.
One of three stands at the 18th green will be reserved, but 5,800 seats will be freely available for spectators to watch the Championship decided at the final green.
Stands holding more than 900 people will be erected behind the green at the dramatic short fifth hole and at every green on the final run of demanding holes from the 14th.
