Hole 14

No. 14 — 618 Yards, Par 5

Another new tee for this year's Open makes the 14th the longest hole on any Open Championship course in Britain at 618 yards. The extra length reinstates the challenge of finding the fairway between the out-of-bounds wall on the right and the group of Beardies bunkers on the left. If the wind comes out of the east then Hell bunker can threaten the second shot. There is a steep climb up to the front right corner of the green before the putting surface slips away to the back and left, where more bunkers lie in wait.

By Keith Mackie, golf historian and writer from a well-established golfing family in St. Andrews.
