The player who fires a tee shot down the narrow alley between the out-of-bounds fence on the right and the cluster of bunkers 20 paces to the left gains a big reward, leaving only a pitch shot to an open green. The majority who lay up short and to the left come into the green over bunker at the front left of the green with the out-of-bounds staring them in the face just off the right edge.
By Keith Mackie, golf historian and writer from a well-established golfing family in St. Andrews.
