As General Chairman, it has been my distinct pleasure to help orchestrate the drama that will unfold this week. It goes without saying that our preparations required the labor of thousands of individuals, many who volunteer simply because of their love of the game.
To all of you, my heartfelt thanks. To the membership and staff of Oak Hill Country Club, who every few years give up their club and its attendant privacy, also because of their love of the game, I thank you as well. To the community at large – the citizens, the governments, the businesses that support our efforts – I salute you and acknowledge we couldn't succeed without your encouragement and backing.
To the players, we wish all of you great success. We understand the challenge ahead is daunting, but the reward is of commensurate value and everlasting. Finally, to The PGA of America, we recognize the trust you place in Oak Hill when you awarded your most prized championship and we take enormous pride in the very fact that you did.
For all of us, I know the week will pass far too quickly, but I also know the memories will endure for a lifetime.
