Andrade started playing the game at age five, tagging along behind his grandmother on the course. He played most sports but his passion in high school was for basketball. Though he was named all-state in basketball in high school, he knew he wasn't big enough to play basketball in college so he started to concentrate on golf. At Wake Forest University, he won four collegiate events and lead the Deacons to the 1986 NCAA Championship. He was an all-American choice three times and played on the 1987 Walker Cup Team. . . When he joined the Tour in 1988, he improved every year until 1992, going from 134th place in the money race in his rookie year, improving to 69th in 1989, placing 64th in 1990, and jumping to 14th in 1991. In 1991 broke through with his first win, at the Kemper Open, and then picked up his second seven days later at the Buick Classic. It would be more than seven years later before he won again, taking the Canadian Open title in a playoff over Bob Friend. In 1997 he missed finishing in the top 30 on the money list by just fewer than $5. |
